Particularly, from what I learnt reading the work of Caribbean philosopher Édouard Glissant:
The right to opacity
It is an insistence on not to be constantly transparent or understood in a simplistic, singular way.
A radical contradiction compared to Western systems that demand clarity and categorisation
From Glissants work I also learnt that the self doesn’t need to be placed by ancestral root
It can develop through, a network relation, movement, mixing; what he calls creolisaiton
